Founded in 1974, Northwest Yeshiva High School is Seattle’s only full-time Jewish high school and one of the state’s premier high schools. NYHS’ dual curriculum provides a solid academic foundation while building strong Jewish identities. An accredited institution of the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges, NYHS offers parents and students the “complete package” — personal growth, Jewish values, spirituality, character development, and educational excellence.
NYHS serves the entire Jewish community. Its students represent many different synagogues and a wide range of affiliations. NYHS students come from a variety of Jewish educational settings including day schools, supplementary schools, Jewish camps, and youth groups.
Small classes and a highly individualized approach to learning enable the school to nurture each student’s individual potential. For those with a limited Judaic background, NYHS offers a program of introductory courses. For gifted/highly capable students or for students with academic challenges, NYHS offers small alternative classes and/or individual tutoring. In addition to outstanding programs for Drama and Fine Arts, the school also offers a broad range of interscholastic athletics and extracurricular activities.
In two independent evaluations, NYHS was judged one of the top academic programs in Washington. In annual rankings conducted by the University of Washington admissions office, NYHS graduates consistently score one of the highest average freshman grade point averages at the university. The Seattle Times School Guide rates which area high schools are “best at college prep.” After surveying a panel of 13 college admission directors and independent college counselors, the School Guide describes NYHS’ General Studies program as “quite rigorous and encourages students to reflect on content. Students are highly motivated.”
Nearly all NYHS students go on to study at a four-year college or university. NYHS graduates attend some the finest institutions of higher learning in the nation. More importantly, an NYHS education instills a lifelong appreciation of Jewish learning and commitment to community.
